There are many different types of music teachers out there, but if you are looking for music lessons from someone who truly loves people and her craft, then Kandy Murphy is a perfect fit.
A graduate of Weber State University, Kandy began playing lead trumpet for the Utah Repertory Theater and was with them for three years. Some of her favorite musicals include Fiddler On The Roof, Camelot, Annie, Anne of Green Gables, and Once Upon a Mattress. Her tremendous talent and reputation as a versatile performer made her a popular trumpet-for-hire. She has played in theater productions, various symphony orchestras, jazz bands and with other recording artists. Kandy especially enjoyed the opportunity to play lead trumpet for Tanya Tucker, Chubby Checker, Fred Rogers (of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood), as well as with her all-time favorite trumpet player, Al Hirt.
Kandy Murphy moved to the Coachella Valley in 1986. She is the mother of 4 daughters and enjoys working out and cycling. She is a member of the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association, and her students receive the highest honors at local and regional SCSBOA Solo & Ensemble Festivals. Kandy is the musical director and pianist for the Palm Desert Jazz Combo, an eleven-piece jazz ensemble that was a McCallum Theater “Open Call” finalist in 2009. This group consists of high school students playing at an advanced level. Kandy is currently accepting applications for a small Jazz Ensemble consisting of saxophone, trumpet, tombone, bass, guitar, piano, drums. Please contact Kandy for further information.
Kandy has also taught and directed various choirs and vocal ensembles at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels. She is currently accepting applications and auditions for vocal ensembles. Looking for experienced voices with the ability to read music and create harmony parts by ear. Having the ability to blend with other voices is a must. No solo voices, please. Must be able to sing with or without vibrato and hold your part a capella.
